Taylor Swift Book Tag

tagI was tagged by Kayla @ The Thousand Lives to do the Taylor Swift Book Tag! Thank you so much, Kayla! :D :D I don't know if you guys know but I LOVE TAYLOR SWIFT.  Like, an inordinate amount. So I am really happy to be tagged! Kayla tweaked the tag so that she'd be doing all 16 tracks from 1989, and I totally approve, so I will be following her lead. And rocking out to the 1989 album while I do this, obviously.

Taylor Swift Book Tag

1. Welcome to New York

“It’s a new soundtrack
I could dance to this beat
The lights are so bright
But they never blind me”

A book where a character takes a journey away from home (bonus points if it’s actually NY).

Don't Let Me Go

Don't Let Me Go by J. H. Trumble: The MC's boyfriend goes to New York to take an Off-Broadway job. ALSO THIS IS A GREAT BOOK.

2. Blank Space

“So it’s gonna be forever
Or it’s gonna go down in flames
You can tell me when it’s over
If the high was worth the pain”

A crack book that you knew you would either love or hate.

Grasshopper Jungle

Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith: Honestly, so wasn't sure what I'd make of this book before I started reading it. It sounded exactly like the kinda thing I wouldn't be into, but I gave it a go anyway and it turns out I was totally into it. Except I was very sad about the portrayal of female characters. ):

3. Style

“You got that long hair, slicked back, white t-shirt
And I got that good girl faith and a tight little skirt”

Best dressed couple on a cover.

Arghhh, I really don't tend to read books that have a picture of the couple on the cover. I'm looking through books I've read or books on my TBR but just... nope. None. The best I could find was Magnolia by Kristi Cook, so here it is. But I mean, the guy's just dressed like any other guy, really.

4. Out of the Woods

“Remember when we couldn’t take the heat
I walked out and said, ‘I’m settin’ you free,’
But the monsters turned out to be just trees
And when the sun came up, you were lookin’ at me”

A book you were terrified to read for fear of hating it, but then fell in love.

Trouble by Non Pratt: I was really worried I wouldn't like this because teenage pregnancy books just don't sound like my thing but I actually liked this a surprising amount, and the story's really stayed with me.

5. All You Had to Do Was Stay

“Hey, all you had to do was stay
Had me in the palm of your hand
Then why’d you have to go and lock me out when I let you in”

A couple with communication issues.

amy and matthewSay What You Will

Amy and Matthew from Amy & Matthew / Say What You Will by Cammie McGovern: OH MY GOD THESE TWO FRUSTRATED ME ENDLESSLY. ENDLESSLY.

6. Shake It Off

“I’m dancing on my own (dancing on my own)
I make the moves up as I go (moves up as I go)
And that’s what they don’t know, mmm-mmm
That’s what they don’t know, mmm-mmm”

A book you black sheep-ed hardcore for.

Ask the Passengers by A. S. King: Everyone loves this and recommends it as a really good LGBTQ YA book. I gave it two stars. Oops.

7. I Wish You Would

“I wish you would come back,
Wish I never hung up the phone like I did.
And I wish you knew that I’ll never forget you as long as I live.
And I wish you were right here, right now, it’s all good.
I wish you would”

A book you put down, but hope to pick up again someday.

The Book Thief

The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak: Does a book I put down like, eight years ago still count?

8. Bad Blood

“Did you think we’d be fine? Still got scars on my back from your knife
So don’t think it’s in the past, these kinda wounds they last and they last now”

A book that tricked you (with a great cover and/or synopsis) into thinking it would be fab, but it only caused rage.

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton: Okay so I really really really loved this book until almost the end when it pretty much ruined everything for me. But of course, spoilers, so I can't say why. BUT UGH SO MUCH DISAPPOINTMENT AND RAGE AT THAT ENDING. What a beautiful cover. And you were almost a beautiful book, as well. :'(

9. Wildest Dreams

“He’s so tall and handsome as hell
He’s so bad but he does it so well”

Your favorite bad boy (heart of gold underneath it all or not – up to you!)

Half Bad Half Wild

I completely give up on this. I don't reckon I've actually read a single book with someone I'd consider a 'bad boy', or if I have I certainly don't remember it. I don't really go for bad boys. Does Gabriel from the Half Bad trilogy by Sally Green count? If not, I really don't know.

10. How You Get the Girl

“I want you for worse or for better,
I would wait forever and ever”

Your most anticipated release that you would give your soul for if you could have it now.

A Darker Shade of Magic

A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab: Well, the wait is almost over for me!

11. This Love

“This love left a permanent mark
This love is glowing in the dark
These hands had to let it go free
And this love came back to me”

A love that stuck with you after you finished the book.

daughter of smoke and bone 1 days of blood and starlight Dreams of Gods and Monsters

Karou and Akiva from the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor: I'M STILL CRYING OVER THEM AND I'LL NEVER STOP.

12. I Know Places

“Baby, I know places we won’t be found
And they’ll be chasing their tails tryin’ to track us down”

A book where the characters had to hide their relationship (for whatever reason).

The Miseducation of Cameron Post by emily m. danforth: Well, the whole book is basically about Cameron trying to hide her sexuality and her various dalliances from people who very much shouldn't find out about them.

13. Clean

“Ten months sober, I must admit
Just because you’re clean don’t mean you don’t miss it”

A book you would reread NOW.

Sprout by Dale Peck: I'm rereading this for Contemporary Conversations, hopefully.

14. Wonderland

“We found wonderland
You and I got lost in it
And we pretended it could last forever”

A book you got completely lost in; the definition of book hangover in physical form.

Crazy by Amy Reed: OH MY GOD and Wonderland is such an appropriate song for it too! This book was so utterly intense and absorbing in its emotions.

15. You Are In Love

“Strange look on his face
Pauses, then says
You’re my best friend
And you knew what it was
He is in love”

The best friends-to-lovers book.

shadow and bone indigo siege and storm ruin and rising

The Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo: The romance in this series is like the most ridiculous thing. I shipped it, I didn't ship it, and then I shipped it SO HARDCORE.

16. New Romantics

“We are too busy dancing
To get knocked off our feet
Baby, we’re the new romantics
The best people in life are free”

A book where the romance isn’t the main focus (or even better – nonexistent. Good luck). Not Otherwise Specified

Not Otherwise Specified by Hannah Moskowitz: THERE IS HARDLY ANY ROMANCE IN THIS BOOK. It's just about our MC, Etta, finding some new friends and falling in friendship-love and working towards her dreams. She has a casual fling with some guy but I would hardly call it a romance. And there's a lot of dancing in this book. Etta's a ballerina, after all.

I know that some of you may have strong opinions about Taylor Swift so I don't know if I should tag any of you. :P But please do it if you want to, especially if you love Taylor Swift so I know which of you are awesome! (Jk, you're awesome too if you don't love Taylor Swift.)

NO I HAVEN'T. I KNOW YOU LOVED IT! It's on my TBR and I will read it!! I normally only buy books which I can get for £5 (about $8?) or less, so I'm waiting for a less expensive copy of Magnolia to surface somewhere so I can buy it.

OMG YOU AGREE WITH ME ABOUT AVA LAVENDER??? Thank god!! I remember finishing that book and then scouring all the Goodreads reviews for a single review which mentioned the shitty ending. I think I found like, ONE review.
